<img src="http://www.melcrum.com/images/melcrum_logo_new.gif" align="right";

Had a very interesting trip to the doctor this morning for a three-month follow-up on some work I had done on my knees. My ego is enormously flattered because it seems my surgeon is thinking of writing a paper about MY knees - that's right! I could be a medical curiosity!

Melcrum articles: Improve your CEO’s people skills

<img src="http://www.melcrum.com/images/melcrum_logo_new.gif" align="right";

What employees want in a leader is someone who articulates the values the company stands for and models his or her behavior on those values in matters large and small. Everyone is looking for the little, genuine moments that reflect well on the posted conduct codes. More than grand gestures, it’s the cumulative effect of the chief executive’s everyday interactions that will resonate with people and form their perception of his or her people skills.

Melcrum articles: Courage in the face of extraordinary talent

<img src="http://www.melcrum.com/images/melcrum_logo_new.gif" align="right";

Organizations recognize the need to attract and successfully manage talented people, but with the balance of power lying in the hands of the cleverest and most talented, this requires both courage and consideration. Marcus Powell and Guy Lubitsh of Ashridge Consulting discuss the results of recent talent- management research and propose a five-point plan.

When American Electric Power (AEP) redesigned its corporate intranet in 2006, a conscious effort was made to introduce new features devoted to employee interaction. Here in an extract from the research report, How to use social media to engage employees, William Amurgis, manager of intranet strategy, describes the evolution.

Melcrum articles: Avoiding the pretense of knowledge management

<img src="http://www.melcrum.com/images/melcrum_logo_new.gif" align="right";

Some mistakes in a KM program are inevitable; after all, nothing is ever perfect. But with rich historical examples to learn from, and some proven insights documented in numerous books and studies, why is it that some of the biggest KM mistakes are repeated time and time again? Here, Dr Ed Rogers draws parallels with current KM practices and the direction given by Nobel Prize-winning economist Freidrich Hayek.

<img src="http://www.melcrum.com/images/melcrum_logo_new.gif" align="right";

That I first heard the 'c' word. Things were going to be different, we were all told. This 'c' thing was going to become a constant. If you didn't embrace it you would be left behind and there would be no place for you. Crumbs - scary stuff! But what are they talking about? It was threatening, confusing, exciting. I remember well the emotions when the "into the 90's" programme was first presented to us.
